If all fails, format your drive.

It will delete all the data from your Digital Voice Recorder and make it fresh and will remove all errors caused by corrupted files. You may wish to copy all of the data off the recorder before you perform the format, as all data will be deleted!

How do I format my flash drive?

Insert you voice recorder to the usb port on your computer and right click the detected removable drive,

from the menu select format the drive.

In the File System drop down, you will see FAT and FAT32. So which one to select?
If you right click Removable Drive >Properties

The General Properties of the Digital Voice Recorder reveals it is FAT, so select FAT in the format utility.

Then just select “Quick Format” and “Start” and all data will be deleted .

Unplug the voice recorder, turn it off and back on again.

The UltraDisk® sound conversion tool is used for converting files of the type: .rcd or .rec or .act, which were recorded using an UltraDisk® MP3 player / digital voice recorder / USB Flash Device.

When installed launch the Sound Convert tool, It will convert the recorded file to a .wav or .mp3 file.
These files can then be played back on your computer as a .wav file or .mp3 file.

Cannot see / view recorded files when connected to Windows

In some cases, you may find that your permission on your computer do not allow you to view the recorded files on your digital voice recorder when you connect it to your computer. Some recording may be saved as system files. To rectify this issue Microsoft article should be followed to ensure that you are viewing all files/folders available.

If your computer is within an office environment and you do not have the priveleges to do this, please contact your IT team and they will make the changes for you.

Please make the following changes and reconnect your voice recorder when completed.

This article describes how to view hidden and system files in Windows Explorer, Windows NT Explorer, My Computer, and the Find tool. By default, Windows does not display hidden and system files.

To view hidden and system files, use one of the following methods.

Computers Without the Internet Explorer 4.0 Windows Desktop Update

Double-click My Computer.
On the View menu, click Options.
On the View tab, click Show All Files, and then click OK.

Computers with Internet Explorer 4.0 Windows Desktop Update or Windows 98

Double-click My Computer.
On the View menu, click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
In the Advanced Settings box, click Show All Files, and then click OK.

When you enable the Show All Files option, the following file types are displayed:

.dll - Program extension
.sys - System file
.vxd - Virtual device driver
.386 - Virtual device driver
.drv - Device driver

Note that any hidden files are also displayed.

Telephone recording.

Connect the telephone recording adapter between the handset & base station of the phone & connect a cassette recorder or digital voice recorder with a 3.5mm audio socket to record both sides of a two-way telephone conversations. Suitable for use with telephones fitted with plug-in handset cords and base units

How do I connect it up?

Remove the cable from the base of the phone this is the part that connects to the adapter block. plug the adapter into the end of the cable that was going into the baseunit and then connect it back to the base of the phone with the additional cable we provide, ensuring you have inserted the cables fully, you have split the line. The audio cables from the adapter can then go into any device that can record. Recording will ensure both sides of the conversation are recorded.

Please note that the adapter is connected to the baseunit and not the box on the wall.

About the UltraDisk RJ11 Telephone recording adapter

The connector supplied on the UltraDisk telephone adapter is of the RJ11 2 pin type, it is regarded as a standard telecoms connection for UK and US telephones (base unit).The most familiar registered jack is probably the RJ11. This is a modular connector wired for one plain old telephone service line (using two wires out of six available positions), and is found in most homes and offices in most countries of the world for single-line telephones.[1] Essentially all one, two, and three line analog telephones made today (2009) are meant to plug into RJ11, RJ14, or RJ25 jacks, respectively.
Recent telephones now use RJ11 4pin if they require power to the telephone, or if they are of a digital nature (eg. PABX), if you are of the latter alternative solutions would be required to intercept digitally.

The adapter is not intended to connect direct to the BT wall socket as it goes into the phone base of the telephone as shown in the diagram above. Your phone should have a cable going into its base, it is this you need to disconnect connect to by splitting that line, with the adapter just before the telephone. Remove the main telephone line from the telephone base unit and connect the RJ11 end into one side of the adapter, connect the short RJ11 line in the kit to the base unit of the telephone.

Problems?

Remove ADSL filter attached to the line, can you try it without to rule this out ADSL filtering.

Do you have another telephone to try it on, one that may not need power (is it a cordless handset?).

It may be possible to resolve RJ11 power issues, with a double BT adaptor connecting to the Bt socket with a BT to RJ11 modem lead if you have one. (this also is the telephone lead provided by Sky if you have digital TV, you know the really long one that nobody ever leaves plugged in)

Please insert the USB cable which accompanying with the recorder into the "USB Jack", and connect the USB cable with the computer, the screen of voice recorder will display USB:

The recorder has the full function of standard USB flash disk

Your operating system should detect the digital voice recorder as an external USB device, no drivers should be needed to perform a simple data transfer /link. (unless you have a very old windows operating system, which you will need to install the USB drivers to your windows OS)

When detected, you will be presented with a number of options, select from the menu on screen to play, view, edit & copy files...

UltraDisk® Installation CD Help

The cd contains html files, images, user manuals and adobe pdf reader. The adobe pdf reader is needed to view the pdf files stored on the cd. You can download / open the manual from the user guide by clicking on the download icon. This will launch the user guide in pdf format. Its possible to print them out, or keep a copy actually on the voice recorder itself, so you always have it with you. If you have poor eyesight you can zoom and even have adobe pdf reader read the text out aloud to you. This can make some interesting listening, try it out !

So if your user cd did not autorun when you put it in, or running shell.exe did not help, browse the contents of the cd and double click the index.html web page, it will launch the user guides in your default internet browser..

launch the file index.html by double clicking on it, or right mouse click and select open. This will be launched in your default internet explorer.

User Manuals are stored in the UserManuals folder under the specific model in pdf format. You can also download these from the online voice recorder support area knowledge base. Just search for your model number in the search bar and download.

Installation problems of ACT software from UltraDisk CD

We are aware that version 1 of the UltraDisk user guide cd has a problem on the downloads page when attempting to install the ACT file conversion software from the cd. One of the links is broken. Although the section is called downloads the software is actually on the cd. The link on the left margin next to UltraDiskÃ‚Â® ACT Sound Conversion Tool version 1.45 is broken As a temporary solution please use the link on the right of this section for your operating system, this will open the file direct from your cd. If this does not work go to 1 - My Computer on your desktop 2 - Right mouse click over the cd drive and select 'explore' from the drop down menu 3 - Browse the folders to X:\UserManuals\ACTtoWAVconversion where X is your cd drive letter 4 - you will see a file called setup.exe 5 - Double click on it. 6 - Select install and continue. software can also be downloaded in our downloads section. 19.11.2009

If you receive a warning on your software installtion when attempting to install the sound conversion utilities, it is nothing to be concerned about, this is a commonn message and can appear with any installation of software on later operating systems.

Microsoft never published a broad compatibility list for Vista, which has left millions of users guessing whether their software would work or not. Unfortunatley UltraDisk user software cd falls into that category (for now). However, when you first attempt to install any application, Vista or XP may pop up an ominous warning that the program you're installing is not compatible with the OS. Just install it anyway, despite Microsoft's warning to the contrary. It will run fine, there is nothing to be concerned about.

But even if the app won't run after installation, you still have another option for making it work: That's because Vista includes a system called Compatibility Mode, which lets Vista emulate an older Windows OS, all the way back to Windows 95. (XP actually has this feature, too, but very few people have ever had to use it.) If you install an app and it won't run, just right-click it, select Properties, and click the Compatibility tab. Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select another OS (typically Windows XP SP2) from the drop-down box.

Cannot see files when inserted into computer Vista / XP

On the DVR9 you may have a problem seeing your recorded files. The recorder is not faulty or has deleted your recordings so dont panic.. You will need to make a small change to your computer, in the way you view files stored on devices. The method to change what folders you can see on your computer on Vista is not much different than in XP. Here are the step-by-step directions. 1. Click the round blue Start thing in the left corner 2. Click Control Panel 3. Click Folder Options 4. Click the View tab 5. Click Show hidden files and folders 6. Uncheck / remove tick from Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) 7. Click OK All folders and recorded files will now show on your voice recorder.

Please check if there is something wrong with the USB cable, use a spare if you have one. Check it is fully inserted into the voice recorder and that USB appears on the voice recorder screen.

If you are on an old Operating system please check that the OS USB driver has been installed properly.

Try on a different pc/laptop and ensure that a USB 2. connection is used..

There is a possibility of a corrupted file stopping the voice recorder from starting correctly, this is caused by incorrect operation and this must be removed to ensure that the recorder restarts correctly...

If your device is battery powered please take out the batteries and put them back after 3 seconds to check that the device has been turned off/on fully..

Then connect the recorder with PC via the USB cable

cut / copy or delete all the files off the recorder, back up your saved files off the device..

Format the recorder using the FAT system, this will delete everything!!

when this is completed, disconnect the voice recorder from the usb connection, turn off and back on again.

the corrupted file is removed and the voice recorder will start again.

Setting the current time on the DVR10 UltraDisk Digital USB Voice Recorder

To synchronise the date and time to your UltraDisk digital voice recorder please follow the instructions below

Insert DVR10
At windows prompt browse the contents of the drive via my computer
You will see that 2 new drives have appeared mapped to your computer
The voice recorder contains two drives.
1. Drive 1 'K' (could be any letter on different machines) - 'voicelist' Contains autorun and time synchronisation application (SetTime.exe) This drive is not writeable and you cannot change any of its contents, but you can execute the programs.
2. Drive 2 'L'- Folder REC_DATA contains your voice recordings in WAV format
View the contents of the 'voicelist' drive in this instance Drive (K:)voice list, the contents will display as shown above.
Double click on the application SetTime.exe
Your computer time now synchronises to the USB Device.
Remove the USB Voice Recorder and make a test recording.
Re-insert the UltraDisk DVR10 voice recorder into the PC
When prompted select run voicememoplayer (and remember)
Note that recordings previously showing with 2008 dates are updated to the current date.
